Parents might remember sitting in the back of the family station wagon when they were children during vacation trips. Cars have come a long way since then. SUVs and minivans today offer more seating, more space for luggage and innovative technology features to keep passengers entertained for hours. The Chrysler Pacifica and Honda Odyssey are two superb minivans and among the top sellers in their class. Read our 2020 Chrysler Pacifica vs. Honda Odyssey comparison and decide which car is more suitable for you.
Performance
The Chrysler Pacifica has a 3.6L V6 engine with 287 horsepower that pairs with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The combination gives solid acceleration. With sturdy brakes and exceptional handling, the Pacifica fares well on turns and winding roads. The rear-link suspension helps give the Pacifica a comfortable ride.
The Honda Odyssey comes with a 3.5L V6 engine with 280 horsepower and connects with a standard 10-speed automatic transmission. The minivan does get strong acceleration and the transmission allows for easier shifting between gears. Its independent suspension absorbs most road imperfections and reduces engine noise inside the cabin, giving a very smooth ride.
For the environmentally conscious, a plug-in hybrid Pacifica is available. According to Chrysler, the hybrid can go 32 miles before needing a battery recharge. So far, Honda hasn't produced a hybrid Odyssey model.
We encourage drivers from Rapid City, Belle Fourche, and Sioux Falls to visit Liberty Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram FIAT. See the Pacifica for yourself and test its power.
Seating and Cargo Space
![]() | ![]() |
The Odyssey seats a maximum of eight people with three rows. The second row can slide forward, backwards or laterally to give passengers more legroom and easier access to the back row. The Pacifica model's standard seating allows a maximum of seven passengers. With an optional seat that can fit in the second row, the seating capacity increases to 8.
The Odyssey offers generous cargo space in any configuration. To get the maximum space, you need to remove the second row, which some drivers might find inconvenient. The Pacifica offers 32.3 cubic feet behind the back row and a maximum of 140.5 cubic feet with the rows folded down. When the back rows fold down, they can go completely into the floor, which helps transport taller items like potted plants.
Technology Features
Both minivans deliver an incredible amount of technology features. They both have infotainment systems with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, Wi-Fi hotspot, a back-row theater system, and even built-in vacuums to clean up messes.
Besides playing DVDs, the Pacifica model's UConnect® Theater system gives children plenty of apps, including games such as Bingo and Checkers to keep them occupied for hours. You have dual screens and a Blu-ray™ player for more modern entertainment.
The rear entertainment system in the Honda Odyssey, however, only uses a single screen that folds down from the roof. The angle and distance from some rear-seat passengers may be a concern when it comes to entertainment on the go.
