Performance
Whether you're heading off on an adventure or simply driving to work, you need to be sure your vehicle has all the necessary power. The Cherokee starts out with more than you might expect, featuring an output of 180 horsepower from its 2.4L 4-cylinder engine. However, the standard Grand Cherokee comes equipped with a V6 engine capable of producing an incredible 295 horsepower.
The Cherokee can be upgraded to a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine which produces 270 horsepower, or it can be upgraded to a 271-horsepower 3.2L V6 engine with a towing capacity of 4,500 pounds. Meanwhile, the Grand Cherokee can be upgraded to the Trackhawk level which includes a supercharged 6.2L HEMI® V8 engine that produces an almost-unbelievable 707 horsepower-the best in its class-as well as a maximum towing capacity of 7,200 pounds.

Efficiency
With all the power in the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee, it lacks the same efficiency that the Cherokee can offer. The massively powerful Trackhawk only gets an EPA-estimated 13 MPG combined. Even its most efficient model gets just an EPA-estimated 21 MPG combined. The Cherokee, on the other hand, is incredibly efficient, earning an EPA-estimated 23 city MPG and 31 highway MPG.
The Grand Cherokee does have the added benefit of a bigger fuel tank, however, at 24.6 gallons. The Cherokee can only hold 15.8 gallons, but with the increased efficiency, you should still spend less time at the gas station.
Interior
Inside each of these off-road adventurers, you'll find a roomy interior with seating for five. However, passengers might be a little more comfortable in the Cherokee. While they get slightly less headroom at 38.5 inches as compared to the Grand Cherokee's 39.4 inches, they enjoy more legroom with 40.3 inches of space as compared to the Grand Cherokee's 38.6 inches.
If you're more interested in carrying cargo, however, the Grand Cherokee is the ideal choice. Its cargo bay accommodates 68.3 cubic feet of cargo space as compared to the Cherokee's 54.7 cubic feet of space.
