Wobbly Bobby's: The Story Behind the Name
This Rapid City pub takes its name from the father of modern policing. Sir Robert Peel helped establish the first modern police unit in London. The new officers earned the nicknames Peelers or Bobbies.
Modern standards of conduct, though, took some time to establish. In 1863, 215 officers were arrested for being intoxicated while on duty. Those early Bobbies of the London police, whether they were noble, not so noble, or even a bit wobbly, are the inspiration behind the pub. Raise your glasses to them!
